Google Pay (Gpay) is UPI based application launched by Google. You can link your bank account to start money transfer through UPI on Google Pay. UPI is a new online money transfer method launched by NPCI like IMPS, NEFT, RTGS.
If you are an SBI customer and want to use Google Pay for UPI money transfer then here is the step by step guide – how to link SBI account in Google Pay and create UPI PIN.
Install Google Pay and Register
- First of all, install Google Pay (Gpay) application on your phone and register yourself before adding your SBI bank account.
- Open Google Pay, enter your SBI registered mobile number, and verify using OTP sent to your mobile number.
- Now select your google account and proceed further.
- Next screen, set login PIN. You can select your phone screen lock or create a PIN password for application login.
- Ok, so now you are registered with Google Pay and now you can add SBI account and create UPI PIN.

- Open Google Pay, and tap on Profile picture.
- Now tap on Add a bank account.
- Select State Bank of India from the bank list.
- Click on OK and proceed. Make sure your SBI registered mobile number is set as primary SIM. An SMS will be sent from your SBI registered mobile number to verify your mobile number and after verification, you can see your SBI account.
- Now the application will send an SMS from your SBI registered mobile number and verify your number then find your bank accounts.
- After mobile number verification, you can see your SBI account listed. Tap on your account and proceed.
- Ok, so your SBI account added successfully in Google Pay, and now its time to create UPI PIN which is the last step. Tap on the Start button.
- Now enter your SBI ATM/Debit card last 6-digits and expiry month & year. ( expiry month also called valid thru/valid up to)
- Next screen tap on Create UPI PIN.
- And finally, set your UPI PIN. You will receive an OTP on your SBI registered mobile number, enter this OTP, and set UPI PIN for your linked SBI account.
Congratulations, you have successfully linked your SBI account with Google Pay (Gpay) and create UPI PIN. You can view your linked SBI account in Payment Methods.
Now you are ready to use Google Pay for fund transfer, receive money from others, make an online payment, and also check SBI account balance. Just proceed with any transaction, enter your UPI PIN, and you are done.
